Having been featured during the recent Story-Rich Showcase 2026, horror RPG Catechesis announced a brand new demo version with a trailer showcasing gameplay. It is being developed by Baroque Decay and is set to release on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
You play as Daniel, an altar boy from a fringe religion who becomes possessed by a demon. Every good deed he performs during the day opens a gateway to Hell, forcing a double life: act virtuous by day (school, work, family visits, helping others) while battling demons and exploring twisted dungeons at night. His final goal is to save his grandfather’s life without dooming the world.
Catechesis will feature day and night cycle that depend on social interactions, whereas dungeon crawling will force you into combat, puzzle solving and stealth moments. Combat is described as deliberate, slow-paced twin stick action with primary ranged weapons and a secondary melee weapon. It also will include evasion, upgrades and experience-based leveling.
As mentioned before, another important element is going to be stealth that functions around sound and light detection mechanics. In other words, you will use flashlight or candles to reveal hidden paths, resources, and religious lore in dark, surreal environments. Besides that, you can expect anime-style cutscenes and themes that blend psychological horror, religion, possession, morality, and family.
The demo version offers 1 hour of gameplay covering the opening chapter, early combat, puzzles and minigames. Don’t forget to check out the trailer below.
