Balatro generated $4.4 million in mobile revenue in just two months

Balatro, the roguelike card game and one of 2024’s surprise hits, achieved remarkable success following its mobile release in September, generating $4.4 million within two months. According to a PocketGamer.biz report based on AppMagic data, this impressive figure represents more than 440,000 downloads, not including additional Apple Arcade players.

Developed by solo creator LocalThunk, the game’s financial success is extraordinary. In its first week on mobile, Balatro earned over $500,000, and by the second week, it nearly doubled that amount. While revenue gradually declined afterward, reaching about $250,000 shortly before its Game of the Year (GOTY) nomination, interest surged again following the announcement. During that week, Balatro achieved its second-best result, earning $727,000.

A key factor behind Balatro’s appeal is its player-friendly monetization model. LocalThunk has committed to keeping the game free of ads, microtransactions, and paid gacha mechanics. Once purchased, the game offers full access without extra charges, a rarity in mobile gaming. This approach has earned community goodwill and contributed to its ongoing success.
