French indie studio The Game Bakers has announced Cairn, their new project following the award-winning Furi and Haven. Cairn takes players on a journey with professional climber Aava as she embarks on the ascent of her life, aiming to conquer a peak that has never been reached before.

This is a realistic mountaineering adventure featuring an intuitive climbing simulation that allows natural movement of hands and feet. You’re free to explore the mountain, get familiar with the rock formations, and choose your own route.

The trailer highlights the challenge of climbing, with difficult segments that must be carefully overcome. Equipment and pitons must be used wisely. In a harsh high-altitude environment, you’ll need to manage your resources and physical condition, searching for food and water while dealing with a limited number of checkpoints to prevent losing progress.

“With Cairn, we’re exploring a new genre that we’ve called the ‘Survival-Climber’. We’ve created a new kind of climbing simulation. It feels extremely natural and intuitive, but the mountain’s challenges will test players’ determination,” said Emeric Thoa, Creative Director at The Game Bakers.

Cairn is planned for release in 2025 for PC (Steam) and consoles.
