Studio Fizbin, known for games such as Say No! More and Minute of Islands, has confirmed that their upcoming game Reignbreaker will be the last of their career. After 14 years of work, the studio will close its doors in the second quarter of 2025, after providing support for the mentioned game, which launches on March 18, 2025 for PC via Steam.
In an official statement reported by Game Developer, studio founder and CEO Alexander Pieper highlighted that the video game industry is currently in a difficult situation, and Studio Fizbin was not spared. “Every magic show has its end, and after 14 years of dedicated work, Studio Fizbin will cease operations this spring following the release of Reignbreaker,” Pieper said.
Pieper explained that the parent company Thunderful, which acquired Studio Fizbin in 2023, made the decision to drastically reduce internal development in November 2024. This decision, which Thunderful CEO Martin explained in the latest quarterly report, also affected Studio Fizbin. Although the team attempted to find new projects after finishing Reignbreaker, none of those plans materialized, leading to the difficult decision to close the studio.
Reignbreaker will be the last game Studio Fizbin ever makes. Pieper emphasized that he believes this will be the best game the studio has ever published, and the team will put in maximum effort to ensure a successful launch and post-launch support. Afterward, the focus will be on helping the talented team members find new opportunities in the industry.
Studio Fizbin is not the only one facing layoff challenges. In the first two months of 2025 alone, almost 1,200 developers lost their jobs due to layoffs and closures at numerous studios, including Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, Toast Interactive, and Night School Studio.
