The sequel to 2024’s The Operator is officially in development, though fans should not expect it anytime soon. Currently referred to as The Operator 2, the project is growing in scale, and the developer has warned that it will not release before 2026. In a message shared on Discord, the creator explained that motivation is “at an all-time high,” even if the amount of groundwork required is large.

According to the developer, the sequel is “much larger than The Operator,” which means many systems must be rebuilt from scratch. While this takes time, it is viewed as necessary to create the game the way it was intended. The first milestone is to complete a working demo of the game’s opening. This mirrors how the first title was made and will lay the foundation for producing the rest of the content more efficiently.

The developer reassured fans that the wait will be worth it, saying: “I know many of you are excited for the sequel. I promise I’m crafting it exactly the way it was meant to be. Thank you for your patience, it will be worth it!” More detailed news is expected in 2026, though a full release that same year has already been ruled out.

As with the original, the sequel will place players in the role of a new recruit starting their first day as an Operator. Through a computer console and their own problem-solving skills, players will work to solve crimes involving murders, missing persons, and cyber attacks. The main gameplay revolves around careful investigation where you will gather evidence, study documents, connect clues, and provide guidance to agents in the field.
