Solo developer Retrofiction Games has revealed more details about its upcoming 2D survival horror game Dead of Darkness. The game will be available for PC via Steam on January 23, 2025, priced at €15.99, with a 15% discount during the first week of launch.

Dead of Darkness offers 12 hours of gameplay filled with cosmic horror, a detailed story, a creepy atmosphere, and intriguing puzzles. The game stands out for its precise pixel-art graphics, beautiful anime illustrations, excellent lighting, and impressive sound effects. The experience is further enhanced by fully voiced cutscenes performed by a talented cast, including Alex Mai (Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Live A Live, One Piece) and Bradley Gareth (My Time at Portia, Genshin Impact, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands).

The plot is set on the chilling Velvet Island and features more than 15 unique characters, each hiding the island’s dark secrets. You must carefully manage limited resources and plan your routes to survive. The game includes intense hallucinations that worsen as your mental state declines, making it difficult to distinguish reality from illusions. There are 13 types of enemies that will hunt you, and you can choose between fighting, fleeing, or outsmarting them.

Although Dead of Darkness will first debut on PC, Eastasiasoft has announced plans to release the game on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles. Details about these versions will be announced later.
