The roguelike deckbuilder 9 Kings from independent studio Sad Socket is coming to Steam Early Access on May 19, 2025. The game will be published by Hooded Horse and INSTINCT3, and it is a dynamic kingdom builder that blends card strategy, city management, and chaotic battles.

Set in a dark fantasy world, 9 Kings challenges you to build a powerful kingdom that can outlast nine rival kings. On a nine-tile grid surrounding your castle, you use cards to build structures, summon armies, or cast spells. The trailer showcases battles involving knights, wizards, and sentient mushrooms, and you can even throw rocks from your castle to crush enemies. Each king has a unique starting deck, and by plundering opponent’s cards, you build various combinations.

This title was developed by a small team from São Paulo and New York and builds on Sad Socket’s success with the game Seraph’s Last Stand, which has sold over 500,000 copies. With the support of publisher Hooded Horse, 9 Kings will evolve through Early Access until its full launch, which is planned for the third quarter of 2025.
