Crosswind Crew, in partnership with publisher Forward Gateway, has announced that its ambitious pirate survival adventure Crosswind is heading to Steam Early Access in 2026. This title promises to deliver a open-world experience that blends classic survival mechanics with high-seas naval combat and supernatural intrigue.

The game places you in the boots of a freelance captain in the 17XX, betrayed and stranded after a job gone wrong. What follows is a tale of revenge and survival, as you must gather resources, build outposts, and customize ships ranging from nimble cutters to monstrous galleons. The combat is a key feature, offering melee battles with a vast arsenal of weapons, firearms, and supernatural abilities to use against challenging bosses and undead enemies in diverse biomes.

While originally envisioned as a free-to-play survival MMO, the developers pivoted to a paid, polished multiplayer experience after receiving overwhelming feedback from closed alpha testers who favored a focused PvE adventure. This shift promises a more refined launch with ongoing content updates based on community input, and the developers are also exploring the possibility of adding mod support and dedicated servers.
