Our journey in Germany has come to an end, and so has our Gamescom experience. From Wednesday to Friday, we met with Croatian and international developers, got insight into the background of various new games, interviewed well-known and lesser-known studios, and had a great time doing it. We also had the opportunity to see some video games that haven’t been shown before. We started Friday by exploring the exhibition items, two full floors with small and large figurines, T-shirts, and places to play Yu-Gi-Oh! or Gwent.
After a short tour of the LEGO hall, which also featured World of Warcraft: Midnight, we headed to a business area on the other side of Gamescom. There, we met with Aerosoft, a studio known for making simulations, to learn about their plans for the rest of the year. Among others, we had the chance to see presentations for Park Ranger Simulator and Fata Deum. Nearby, we also visited the booth for the game Cloudheim and got a look at DarkSwitch, a fantasy and city-builder title inspired by Frostpunk.
PM Studios gave us the opportunity to play Yooka-Replaylee, an enhanced version of the 2017 game, and chat with the original creator, which briefly took us back to the world of classic platformers. On the other hand, we were pleasantly surprised by LEGO Voyagers. If you’re a fan of games like It Takes Two or Split Fiction, you should definitely check out this cooperative title that makes the most of LEGO physics and various “building” mechanics.
The Indie Arena Booth also presented Escape Simulator 2, a game by the Croatian studio Pine Studios. We had the chance to try a level on a spaceship and have to admit that the game’s graphics have been significantly improved, and it looks like it will be full of riddles and puzzles. In the same area, we also met with people from Neowiz from South Korea, who brought a large number of their indie games to Germany.
At the end of the day, behind closed doors, we watched a presentation for a new James Bond game, 007: First Light, but unfortunately, we can’t reveal any details about it yet. We’re leaving Gamescom with great enthusiasm, having gained valuable experience and insight into how the gaming industry works. This year’s Gamescom was fantastic and is definitely worth visiting if you are a video game lover or just consider yourself a gamer.
