Norwegian studio Megapop has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming underwater city builder Life Below marking the game’s debut at Gamescom 2025. Set in a near-future Earth where climate change has devastated the oceans, the game challenges players to breathe life back into a damaged reef and restore its ecosystem.
In Life Below, players take on the role of Thalassa, the guardian of the Heart of the Reef. Tasked by the voice of nature, Thalassa’s mission is to use the Heart’s energy to grow new coral structures and bring back a collapsing underwater world. The new trailer showcases the core gameplay loop, which requires you to manage your reef, place energy-producing Moon Coral, and strategically use crafted lures to attract a biodiverse population of marine life.
Written by the acclaimed video game writer Rhianna Pratchett, the game offers a unique and fresh take on the city-building genre. It immerses you in a beautiful, yet fragile, world where the rules are constantly shifting. As the climate-impacted ocean presents ever-changing challenges, you will need to adapt your strategies to ensure the survival and evolution of their underwater ecosystem.
Life Below is scheduled for release on PC via Steam next year.
