The survival horror genre is about to get a serious dose of David Lynch. Silver Pines, an upcoming metroidvania from solo developer Wych Elm (published by Team17), is the highly ambitious and genuinely risky project aiming to deliver a blend of classic Resident Evil resource management with the surreal, detective noir mystery of Twin Peaks.

Set for a 2026 launch on PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch, this isn’t your standard jump-scare-a-thon. It’s a psychological horror where your inventory space and your sanity are equally limited.

You play as Red Walker, a private investigator. He must track down Eddie Velvet, a musician who vanished without a trace. Upon arrival in the remote town of Silver Pines, a “half-abandoned, half-forgotten” place, Walker immediately uncovers layers of dark secrets:

  • Detective Noir Narrative: What begins as a routine missing persons case quickly spirals. The game is less about fighting and more about slowly peeling back layers of dark, generational secrets tied to the town’s shadowy history.
  • A World of Distorted Reality: The Galaxies Showcase trailer clearly showed the focus – environmental puzzles. Therefore, players must solve them to access new areas. You will navigate locked doors, hidden passages, and clue-filled environments to progress.

The Combat: Heavy, Unique, and My Favorite Part

Unlike many modern survival horror titles, Silver Pines is aggressively focused on scarcity and deliberate action, putting its Metroidvania label to serious work:

  • Puzzles are Progress: Exploration relies heavily on environmental puzzles. You’ll be navigating a dense, interconnected world, constantly searching for the right clue or item to open that next hidden passage.
  • Brutal Resource Management: Inventory space is extremely limited. Every piece of ammo, every medicine bottle, and every scavenged upgrade will feel precious, forcing players to prioritize wisely.
  • Stealth is Survival: Because ammo is so scarce, the game constantly pushes stealth and evasion. In fact, players must utilize dynamic shadows.

This emphasis on slow, tense, clue-driven gameplay is what sets Silver Pines apart. It’s a huge bet, but if Wych Elm pulls off the psychological depth of Twin Peaks while nailing the inventory dread of classic Resident Evil, it won’t just be a good game, it will be a great title.
