Michał Kiciński is returning to where it all began. The Polish game industry pioneer has officially bought GOG from the CD PROJEKT Group, bringing the digital store back under the control of one of its original founders. The deal is valued at 90.7 million PLN and marks an important shift for the platform, while keeping a strong partnership with CD PROJEKT in place.

GOG was first launched in 2008 with a clear and bold idea: Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński wanted to save classic games from being lost over time and give people real ownership of what they buy. By removing DRM, they made sure that games could be downloaded, backed up, and played forever. Kiciński says these ideas will remain at the core of GOG’s future. He believes that well-made older games still offer deep and meaningful experiences, often stronger than many modern releases that rush to market.

The sale also fits CD PROJEKT’s long-term plans as the company is now fully focused on growing its biggest series, including The Witcher and Cyberpunk. Since GOG has already worked as an independent platform for years, leadership felt this was the right moment to pass it back to its original creator. Michał Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CD PROJEKT, shared full trust in Kiciński and said the store is in the best possible hands.

A new agreement ensures that CD PROJEKT RED games will continue to launch on GOG, staying side by side with the classic titles that made the platform famous. Kiciński is also teasing new games with a strong retro feel, which he is personally involved in and plans to highlight on the store in 2026.
