Desktop Explorer, the upcoming psychological horror adventure from Recurring Dream, made an appearance during the Story-Rich Showcase 2026 with brand-new footage from its later chapters. The game is scheduled to launch on July 17, 2026, for PC via Steam.

You inherit an old computer from your uncle, who leaves behind a letter asking them to investigate a missing person’s case connected to a mysterious application known as Desktop Explorer. What begins as a digital scavenger hunt slowly evolves into something far darker as hidden user profiles, forgotten files, and unsettling discoveries begin to surface.

Rather than relying on jump scares, Desktop Explorer builds tension through exploration and investigation. You will interact with a fully simulated retro operating system inspired by Windows PCs of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Every folder, message, document, and corrupted file could contain a clue that helps unravel the mystery.

Fans of games that tell stories through unconventional interfaces should keep this one on their radar. A demo is already available on Steam, offering an early look at the unsettling mystery waiting inside the machine.
