One of the more interesting horror games from the Story-Rich Showcase 2026 wasn’t filled with jump scares or flashy action. Instead, Lost in the Roots grabbed attention with its haunting hand-drawn visuals and a story that seems determined to get under your skin.

Developed by Trioskaz, the studio behind No, I’m Not a Human, Lost in the Roots follows a young girl named Trisha who wakes up trapped inside a stranger’s attic. Outside lies a sprawling living forest that twists reality itself, forcing anyone who enters to confront their deepest fears, regrets, and memories.

This adventure blends classic point-and-click exploration with environmental puzzles, survival mechanics, and narrative-driven horror. As players search the house and surrounding woods for answers, they’ll slowly uncover the tragic history connecting Trisha to Jakob, a familiar character from Trioskaz’s previous game.

Every scene is animated frame-by-frame, creating a hand-crafted world that feels both beautiful and deeply unsettling. The latest trailer also confirmed full voice acting, which adds even more weight to the game’s emotional themes of guilt, forgiveness, and redemption.

With a free playtest already available on Steam and a launch planned for Q3 2026, this is definitely one to keep an eye on if you enjoy psychological horror with substance behind it.
