Turok: Origins is Saber Interactive’s revival of the classic Turok franchise, taking the series in a new direction with third-person gameplay, cooperative multiplayer, and a larger emphasis on action while retaining its signature mix of dinosaurs, sci-fi weaponry, and alien enemies.

Players assume the role of legendary Turok warriors protecting humanity from extinction. The central conflict revolves around the ancient Order of the Turok, an alien invasion threatening the galaxy, humanity’s survival and the mysterious power guarded by the Order. Unlike previous entries that focused primarily on the Lost Land, Origins expands the conflict into a larger sci-fi setting.

Game Informer revealed that the story campaign is expected to last roughly 12 hours, making it a focused action game rather than a massive open-world adventure. Saber says maps are designed around multiple vertical layers. Enemies attack from cliffs, trees and elevated structures, encouraging teammates to cover different angles instead of clustering together.

Turok: Origins is scheduled to launch in Fall 2026. Saber Interactive has not announced an exact release date yet. It will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

What can you expect from the gameplay

Unlike the Nintendo 64 classics, which were first-person shooters, Turok: Origins is primarily a third-person action shooter. Players become members of the mystical Order of the Turok, legendary warriors tasked with protecting humanity against both prehistoric predators and an advanced alien race threatening the galaxy.

Combat combines:

  • Modern firearms
  • Futuristic sci-fi weapons
  • Bows
  • Melee attacks
  • Mystical abilities
  • Brutal executions
  • Fast-paced movement

The game also dynamically switches between third-person and first-person perspectives during certain combat moments and abilities, according to the latest gameplay footage. One of the biggest additions is full online cooperative play where you can play the campaign alone, team up with three other players, choose different warriors with unique equipment and abilities and combine skills to defeat larger enemies and bosses. I n fact, co-op is a major focus of the experience rather than simply an optional feature.

Turok: Origins will feature two primary enemy factions, including dinosaurs (Raptors, Tyrannosaurs, massive armored dinosaurs, mutated prehistoric beasts, boss creatures) and alien threat (technologically advanced alien civilization attempting to eradicate humanity). In other words, dinosaurs aren’t simply wildlife, they actively participate in combat and often fight alongside or against alien forces. On the other side, alien enemies will use energy weapons, heavy armor, mechanical units and biomechanical bosses.

The three playable classes currently revealed are:

  • Cougar – offensive weapons specialist
  • Bison – defensive front-line fighter
  • Raven – ranged specialist

Each class has its own weapons and four unique abilities, but loadouts can be customized extensively rather than being fixed.

DNA upgrade system is the central mechanic of the game

A completely new progression system allows players to harvest DNA from defeated enemies. Collected DNA can be used to: upgrade weapons, unlock new combat abilities, improve survivability and enhance offensive powers. This system rewards defeating tougher enemies and encourages experimentation with different builds.

Worth pointing out is that the the gameplay trailer showcases a wide arsenal including:

  • Assault rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Sniper rifles
  • Bows
  • Energy weapons
  • Heavy explosives

Series veterans will also be happy to know that iconic weapons such as the Cerebral Bore return. Levels are built around large jungle environments mixed with:

  • Ancient ruins
  • Temples
  • Alien facilities
  • Dense forests
  • Mountain regions

Exploration includes optional paths and hidden upgrades while remaining largely mission-based rather than open world. Additionally, when it comes to the visual style, Turok: Origins will feature dense jungle vegetation, detailed dinosaur animations, large-scale explosions, gore-heavy combat, cinematic boss encounters and modern lighting and visual effects.

If you choose to play alone, you’ll experience the campaign completely solo, there are no AI bots filling the empty player slots. Game designer Carlos de Maria Castillo confirmed that playing with friends isn’t just helping someone else’s save. Everything you unlock, including resources, upgrades and currency, comes back with you to your own campaign. As Castillo explained, the goal was to make sure players never feel they’re “wasting their time” by joining someone else’s game.
