Bit Bot Media and Mecanimal Games have officially announced Final Boss: The Video Game, an ambitious adaptation of Tyler Kirkham’s Image Comics series. The hybrid action title is scheduled to launch for PC via Steam in Q4 2028.

Inspired by classic arcade games, action films, and comic books, Final Boss: The Video Game combines three distinct gameplay styles into one experience. Players will battle through retro-inspired 2D pixel art beat ’em up stages before seamlessly transitioning into cinematic 3D one-on-one fighting game battles whenever a boss appears.

“Final Boss was born from my love of classic arcade games, fighting games, action movies, and comics,” said creator Tyler Kirkham. “Working directly with Bit Bot allows us to translate that DNA into a video game that feels authentic to the comic while expanding the world in exciting new ways.”

The story follows Tommy Brazen and his allies as they travel across dangerous islands, deserts, and criminal strongholds while uncovering the mystery surrounding Tommy’s growing powers and family legacy. Players can tackle the adventure alone or with up to four players in local co-op, choosing between Tommy, Rabak, Masked Vigilante, and Midnight Lily. During boss encounters, teammates can tag in, blending cooperative gameplay with strategic fighting game mechanics.

Additional features include animated comic book cutscenes, multiple playable heroes, secret-filled levels, replayable boss battles, and an original soundtrack composed by Celldweller, making the game a modern tribute to the golden age of arcade action.
