Independent developer Classi5ed has launched a $34,000 Kickstarter campaign for Lie of Caelum: Spirit, a science-fiction mecha JRPG inspired by the PlayStation and Sega Saturn eras.

The soundtrack will feature Kurippertronixxx and Mushra of Seed of Nostalgia. A guest contribution from Motoi Sakuraba, known for Dark Souls, Tales of and Star Ocean, is contingent on the campaign reaching its funding target.

“I’m glad to be part of Lie of Caelum: Spirit as a guest composer. I always enjoy games with a strong, unusual world behind them, and Lie of Caelum’s story sounds like just that kind of project. If backers reach this goal, I’ll do my best to write music that fits what the team is building,” Sakuraba said.

Gameplay combines turn-based decisions with Just Attack and Just Guard timing. Players can choose from 14 characters, each paired with a distinct Frame, while parties can be developed around different roles and equipment.

The adventure alternates between turn-based mech battles, high-speed shoot-’em-up sequences and on-foot exploration with optional paths. Encounters are visible in the environment rather than triggered through random battles.

A Link Catalyst companion develops alongside the party, providing combat support and access to a transformation. Classi5ed cites Xenogears and Phantasy Star as major influences. Fans of revived classic RPGs can also read our Terranigma Gamescom preview.

Backers can secure an early Steam key from $18. Higher tiers offer opportunities to design monsters, NPCs or a playable character and Frame. The game is planned for PC through Steam in English and Japanese, with Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions listed as stretch goals.
