It’s no surprise that Balatro is the best indie game of the year, this was expected, but it also won awards for Best Debut Indie Game and Best Mobile Game. Although LocalThunk didn’t appear at the event, the publisher had only praise for other indie titles: “Don’t forget to play all the games on this list,” they said.
Balatro rightfully earned these awards; while simple in gameplay, it offers unmatched replayability. In terms of price and popularity, it’s easily the best-selling indie game of the year, on both PC and mobile platforms, with over 3.5 million copies sold. Its publisher, Playstack, clearly struck gold with Balatro, and we’ve also received some very interesting new crossovers.
Balatro has also released its third free cosmetic update, Friends of Jimbo: Pack 3, adding another eight games to its crossover collection, bringing the total to 16. As with previous packs, this update includes cosmetic masks you can apply to your deck. These are the included games:
