Frame Interactive, led by Creative Lead Ben Throop, has announced its new project The Free Shepherd, an atmospheric adventure game where players step into the paws of a loyal border collie. The title was revealed during The Game Awards 2025 Pre-Show and is slated for release on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2027.
The Free Shepherd promises a unique experience that explores the beauty and power of nature, blending cinematic exploration with quiet emotional storytelling and light fantastical elements. You take on the role of an energetic sheepdog who is suddenly alone in a beautiful but troubled world. The dog’s mission is to run fast and free, locating masses of lost sheep and safely herding them to a secret refuge.
The game is set across landscapes inspired by real-world travels to Iceland, inviting players to embrace their dog instincts while unraveling the mysteries of the island. The central conflict revolves around discovering a mysterious calamity that only the sheepdog can stop. Adding to the game’s emotional depth, Vermont-based cellist Zoë Keating is confirmed to compose the music.
The game is already available to wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store.
