City-builder and management game Republic of Pirates launches in mid-June

The pirate-themed city-builder and real-time strategy game Republic of Pirates is coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 19. While PC gaming has a long lineage of pirate titles, this one is closer to Anno 1800 than to games like Sea of Thieves or classics such as Sid Meier’s Pirates.

Instead of fighting other pirate captains or committing pirate war crimes, Republic of Pirates will let you build a pirate empire. Following city-builder genre standards, you’ll plan what to build and where, optimize resource gathering, manage worker job assignments, and try to meet the needs of a growing population. You’ll also expand to new islands and take over other settlements for additional resources.

In the game, you’ll be able to command a fleet of ships, engage in real-time strategic combat, and use a tactical map to plan and execute your next assault. You’ll have to confront enemy fleets and bombard their port defenses to conquer other islands across the open ocean. You can also accept bounties or attack specific settlements as part of your expansion throughout the campaign.

To celebrate Steam Next Fest, players will get access to an exclusive demo created specifically for the event, covering the first three hours of the main campaign. Here you’ll establish your first settlement on a remote Caribbean island, with your loyal companion John Artley acting as your guide. John will teach you all the core mechanics and systems, introduce your allies, and track your story-driven missions and objectives.

The full version will include more than 30 hours of content, eight unique ship classes, the ability to recruit captains and improve their skills to unlock new specializations and combat tactics, and 100 different buildings.
