In recent years, Sports Interactive has put a strong emphasis on transparency with their community. As a result, we’ve already had an early look at several new features coming to Football Manager 2025 (FM25) through the development blog.

Sports Interactive recently unveiled a new logo and brand identity to mark the beginning of a new era. After years of effort, the studio has also secured a partnership with the Premier League, which will significantly enhance the authenticity of the FM experience. Additionally, Football Manager 2024 has been played by 10 million players, the highest in the history of the series.

The shift to the Unity engine is the most significant technological change for the series in over 20 years. This transition promises improved graphics, more efficient development, and a stronger foundation for future innovation. Unity’s flexibility will allow faster implementation of new features and design improvements. FM25 will also introduce a new UI/UX tile-and-card system to streamline navigation and present information more efficiently.

To optimize the game, several features and modes will be modified or temporarily removed:

  • Touchline shouts: Removed due to implementation issues, to return once perfected.
  • Social media screen and Data Chalkboard: Merged into other parts of the game or removed due to low usage.
  • Create-a-Club: Paused for FM25, returning in FM26 with major improvements.
  • Versus Mode and Challenge Mode: Under review for future iterations due to low engagement.
  • Fantasy Draft: Temporarily removed; will return later with improvements and integration into the new FIFAe esports initiative.

Other changes and additions:

  • New technology for Newgens and manager creation.
  • New and more realistic animations.
  • Introduction of women’s football, originally announced in July 2021.
  • A replacement for the traditional Inbox: the new Portal will offer a richer interaction experience, integrating agendas, messages, news, and match information into a new unified interface.

The release date for FM25 will be revealed in early September, along with the opening of pre-orders. The studio is also considering reviving the official Football Manager Podcast for behind-the-scenes insights and stories from the world of professional football. FM25 will be available on PC/Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Details regarding Football Manager 25 Touch and Football Manager Mobile will be announced later.
