A new trailer for Good Boy, a self-proclaimed “Petroidvania”, was showcased during the Awesome Indies event at Gamescom 2025, revealing a new take on the creature collector genre. In this game players will embark on a journey across the alien planet Terra II as a LAIKA Space Rover, a program that gives dogs a second chance at life as brave space explorers.
At its heart, Good Boy places you in the role of a LAIKA Space Rover, a program that gives dogs a second chance at life as space explorers. The game’s story kicks off with a mystery on the planet Terra II. A human explorer is sent to investigate, but after a rough landing, their SOS signal awakens a sleeping LAIKA Rover. From there, their adventure together truly begins.
In terms of gameplay, it combines classic Metroidvania exploration with creature collection. As you navigate Terra II, you’ll use various tools and upgrades to capture the planet’s strange alien creatures. These creatures are more than just collectibles; their unique abilities are crucial for overcoming obstacles and unlocking new areas, building a strong bond between you and your companions.
Moreover, captured creatures can be brought back to your home base to be scanned for Research Credits, which are likely vital for further upgrades and advancements. Beyond the main quest, players can also discover and reactivate other sleeping dog companions, completing quests for them. This element further enriches the game’s friendly and cooperative atmosphere.
