More than four years after its original release, Alan Wake Remastered has received one of its most meaningful PC updates yet. Developer Remedy Entertainment has rolled out patch 1.33, finally bringing native HDR support to the PC version, an upgrade that significantly enhances the game’s moody lighting and cinematic atmosphere.

For a title so deeply rooted in shadow, contrast, and dramatic bursts of light, HDR is more than a technical checkbox. It fundamentally transforms how Bright Falls looks and feels, deepening blacks, intensifying highlights, and adding a layer of visual richness that standard dynamic range simply cannot replicate. If you own an HDR-capable display, this update alone may be reason enough to revisit Alan Wake’s nightmare.

The patch doesn’t stop there. PC players also benefit from improved DLSS support, fixes to FOV scaling, better ultrawide compatibility, and refinements to the DX12 rendering path. The framerate cap has been further unlocked, allowing performance up to 240FPS on capable hardware. Remedy has also addressed polygonal rendering errors and depth buffer issues, greatly reducing visual glitches. For returning players and speedrunners, the ability to skip the intro cutscene is a small but welcome quality-of-life addition that trims down repeat playthroughs.

What makes the HDR addition particularly notable is the involvement of graphics programmer Filippo Tarpini, one of the industry’s most vocal advocates for proper HDR implementation. Tarpini has long argued that HDR remains underappreciated by both developers and players, despite offering a more noticeable visual leap than many heavily marketed features.
