A new playtest for the roguelike auto-battler card game Holder of Place is now live on Steam, introducing players to new content and strategic possibilities. The playtest, which is available until October 10, 2025, is primarily intended to gather feedback on a new “Origin Follower” faction that promises to change the gameplay.

The centerpiece of this new content is the “Fate’s Beloved” faction, a moth-themed group that will show up in the first recruit event of a run. When you choose to recruit this new faction, all normal support followers are replaced with a new type of follower: the Moth. This playtest also introduces a special, mysterious event—a strange machine that seems to grant wishes for a perfect card, which you will encounter in every run as long as they have more than one core health.

For those unfamiliar with the title, Holder of Place is a hybrid card game with elements of strategy and turn-based tactics. You recruit unique characters with distinct traits, arrange them strategically to unlock powerful synergies, and watch them automatically battle against waves of enemies.

To request access to the playtest, you need to click the “Request Access” button on the game’s Steam store page.
