Clumsy Bear Studio has announced that its card-based adventure game Hungry Horrors will enter Steam Early Access on January 19, 2026. Inspired by folklore from Britain and Ireland, the game takes a very different approach from most deck-builders.

There is no fighting at all. Instead of weapons or magic, players use food to survive, serving traditional meals to scary creatures in order to keep them calm and alive. Each card represents a dish, and every turn is a race to feed a Horror before it reaches the player. Choosing the right meal at the right time is key, as every creature has its own tastes and limits.

At the start of Early Access, players will be able to explore five main areas, including caves, woods, bogs, meadows, and a small town. Special locations like the dungeon and the kitchen also play an important role. Across these places, you will meet 20 different Horrors taken from legend, such as the Dullahan, Jenny Greenteeth, and Queen Mab. To keep them fed, the game offers 42 unique dishes based on real traditional foods.

The strategy goes beyond simply playing food cards since players can use seasonings, cooking tools, potions, and magical items to change how their deck works and improve their chances of success. Progress carries over between runs through the Book of Taliesin, which unlocks new systems and upgrades over time.
