Daniel Mullins, the creator of critically acclaimed games like Inscryption and The Hex, appeared during The Game Awards 2023 event with a sequel to his popular and peculiar 2016 game, Pony Island. It is titled Pony Island 2: Panda Circus and will be available on the Steam platform.

The original Pony Island was distinctly not about ponies, and its sequel promises to continue that tradition, offering a fantastic journey through time, myths, deities, and video games. This time, you play a young nomad condemned to relive his untimely death inside The Earth Prison. The goal, as Mullins explains on the newly revealed Pony Island 2 Steam page, is to “escape the gentlemanly gods of the underworld with your soul and your sanity.”

Along the way, you’ll haggle for your soul, by winning or interrupting the games of the underworld deities with nothing but your horse, your thumb drive, and your wits. Unsurprisingly, given Mullins’s history, the announcement trailer for Pony Island 2 looks absolutely wild; I won’t even attempt to guess what’s going on in it.
