We Need to Talk About Kinstrife, a Medieval RPG with Revolutionary Physics-Based Combat

If you enjoy independent indie game coverage, consider supporting Indie-Games.eu on Patreon. It helps keep the site independent.

Kinstrife is a single-player medieval RPG featuring physics-based combat, where you take on the role of a wandering knight in turbulent 13th-century Germany.

I recently stumbled upon Kinstrife on YouTube, a medieval RPG promising revolutionary physics-driven swordplay. Judging by the latest trailer, it will include campaign gameplay and strongly reminds me of Mount & Blade, while still offering a unique approach. Kinstrife is being developed by the relatively unknown studio Finitude, which will very likely be releasing its debut title. The studio consists of only two members based in Berlin and Maastricht, making this an impressive feat for such a small team.

In the game, players will travel through castles, cities, monasteries, villages, and forests in search of wealth and glory, engaging in battles and tournaments. Its nonlinear open world allows for free exploration of unique locations, making choices that affect the game’s outcome, and approaching challenges in multiple ways.

The high-quality physics combat system ensures that every action matters: weapons don’t just hit—they deliver powerful blows, characters fall when losing control, and even cavalry can play a significant role. You’ll feel like you’re personally in the thick of battle, controlling swords and adapting techniques with various historical weapons. Every action, parry, or feint opens up different approaches to experimentation and playstyles, requiring mastery of mechanics to fully enjoy the experience.

The new trailer also shows that Kinstrife will feature campaign-style gameplay similar to Mount & Blade. Players can raise and train their knight, fill their treasury with money, and stock their armory by looting or earning rewards through tournaments. One particularly intriguing aspect is the ability to gain influence through battles, chivalry, good deeds, and strategic maneuvering while building and leading a loyal following or army. Whether this will function exactly like Mount & Blade remains to be seen.

Označava praktički kraj središnje vlasti i ubrzanje kolapsa carstva u nezavisne kneževske teritorije.
