On the second anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke has reflected on the game’s massive success and hinting at what’s next for the studio. In a recent X post on August 3, 2025, Vincke revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 success has given the studio the resources to fund and plan a new, secretive project. This new venture suggests a shift away from the demanding eight-year development cycle that ended with the final major update, Patch 8, in April 2025.

Vincke’s post is deliberately vague, but it contains several clues about a new game. He mentions that the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 “was what allowed us to do our next crazy thing.” The word “crazy” suggests a bold and ambitious new project, which is fitting for a studio known for its large-scale and detailed games like the Divinity series.

He also promised fans that the team is working hard to deliver “plenty of fun” in a “surprising way,” which is a classic move to build excitement for a new game. This kind of language is similar to how Larian has teased its past titles. Vincke also asked for patience, noting that “we’ll need a bit of time to make it all work.” This hints at a long and careful development process, which is typical for Larian’s projects.

The financial success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which apparently generated €249 million in pre-tax profits and sold over 15 million copies, has given Larian the freedom to be creative. The studio’s expansion, including the opening of a new studio in Warsaw in 2024, also supports the idea that they are working on a new game. Vincke’s comments at the 2024 Sea Game Awards, where he mentioned a potential release window of 2028-2029, also align with a new, large-scale project being in the works.

However, Vincke is being intentionally vague to manage expectations during these early stages of development. Given that Larian has moved away from creating sequels or DLC for Baldur’s Gate, this new project is likely a new original game. The hint about a “surprising way” could even suggest a change in genre or a new multiplayer focus, though that is purely speculation at this point.
