The developers recently revealed that Mortal Shell II open beta has surpassed 500,000 downloads on Steam, a significant milestone that highlights just how much interest there is in the upcoming soulslike sequel.

The beta launched during Summer Game Fest and gives players access to roughly the first three hours of the game. Even better, some progression will carry over into the final release, giving early adopters an extra reason to jump in before launch.

It currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam, with many players praising the improved combat, darker atmosphere, and expanded world design. The signature Shell system, which allows you to inhabit different warriors with unique abilities, also remains one of the game’s biggest draws.

For fans of the original Mortal Shell, the sequel looks like a major step forward rather than a simple follow-up. The game is being described as a standalone dark fantasy action RPG set within a larger interconnected world, offering more freedom to explore while maintaining the punishing combat the series is known for.

There is still no official release date, but Mortal Shell II is scheduled to launch sometime in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
