The retro-inspired shooter MOUSE: P.I. For Hire from Fumi Games and PlaySide Studios has quietly turned into a massive commercial success less than a month after launch. Released globally on April 16, 2026, the game has already sold around 730,000 copies across PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Those numbers have gone far beyond initial expectations, with the publisher reportedly recouping all development, publishing, and marketing costs already. One of the more interesting details is how strongly the game is performing on consoles. Shortly after launch, console sales represented around 44% of total units sold.

That number has now climbed to roughly 50%, showing that the game is continuing to find a wider audience outside of PC storefronts. Financially, the success has been huge for PlaySide Studios. Recent estimates place gross platform sales at around 21.4 million dollars, while net revenue before royalties sits at approximately 13 million dollars.

A big part of the game’s appeal comes from its presentation. MOUSE: P.I. For Hire mixes hand-drawn rubber hose animation inspired by 1930s cartoons with fast-paced FPS gameplay and noir detective storytelling. Add in voice work from Troy Baker, and the result is a game that instantly stands out the moment you see it in motion.

Players have clearly responded well to it too. The shooter currently holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam alongside strong review scores across both Metacritic and OpenCritic. Wishlists have also reportedly surpassed 3 million across platforms, suggesting that the game may continue selling strongly throughout the rest of the year.

And with physical editions planned for July 2026, the success story for MOUSE: P.I. For Hire may only just be getting started. You can also check our review here.
