Iam8bit Presents and developer Nano Park Studios, a Canadian indie team founded by pixel artist Brandon James Greer and developer Danny Guo, announced Petal Runner during Day of the Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest. This brand-new slice-of-life RPG delivers a whimsical tale of virtual living with visual elements reminiscent of the best the Game Boy Color era had to offer.

Petal Runner is a coming-of-age story set in a cyberpunk-inspired pixel-art open world. Players will join Cali and Kira as they explore the sunny city of Sapphire Valley and train to become specialized motorcycle couriers known as Petal Runners. Once certified, they’ll make deliveries, meet new friends, play mini-games, and uncover a heartfelt story about life, growing up, and letting go.

“Our design philosophy is to modernize the feel of the retro classics that inspire us while incorporating mechanics and mini-games that feel fresh within an RPG structure. We’ve been working on this in secret for the past few years; we’re pouring a lot of ourselves into this project, and we’re excited for people to experience this first major release from our new studio,” said Guo and Greer of Nano Park Studios.

For now, we know that Petal Runner will be available on PC via Steam, but it does not yet have a release date.
