Redox Interactive and publisher Forklift Interactive have announced Gate Guard Simulator, a new job simulation game where players take on the role of a castle gate guard. As the last line of defense, the guard must stop all kinds of intruders from slipping into the stronghold. It will be available on PC via Steam.

In the game, players are responsible for identifying anyone who should not be allowed inside. Visitors come in many forms, from ordinary peasants to high-ranking nobles, and it is up to you to spot anyone with bad intentions. Every person who approaches the gate must show their documents, and the main task is to check whether the crests and seals are real or forged. A single mistake could allow a dangerous person to enter and put the entire castle at risk.

The job goes beyond simple document checks as the game adds moments of moral choice and hands-on inspection. Players must decide how to handle small rule-breakers and attempted bribes: a merchant might hide wine in his wagon, or a traveler might carry a forbidden rabbit. Some visitors may also try to hide weapons, leaving you to decide whether a small sword is harmless or a cause for alarm.

To uncover the truth, you can also use various tools. A halberd can be used to search through a farmer’s cart, a close sniff might help decide whether a mark on someone’s skin is harmless, and in stranger cases, a bit of holy water on a suspicious coffin may reveal whether the widow’s story is honest.
