Nintendo fans might not have to wait much longer to learn more about the highly anticipated Switch 2 console. According to recent leaks, the reveal may happen on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. While Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 is in development and will be unveiled in the coming months, it has not officially set a date.

The rumor originated from a Chinese leaker with a proven track record, who previously predicted the June Nintendo Direct event. The leaker started a countdown ending on January 8, which aligns with their earlier claim that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 in January, with a planned release in March 2025. Despite the leaker’s credibility, fans should approach these claims with caution until Nintendo makes an official announcement.

For now, confirmed details about the Switch 2 are limited. Nintendo has revealed that the console will be backward compatible with the original Switch and will include existing Switch Online content. Meanwhile, leaks and speculation suggest the Switch 2 may feature powerful hardware, magnetic Joy-Cons, and a lineup of games including an open-world Super Mario title and Mario Kart 9. Given the massive success of Mario Kart 8 on the original Switch, the possibility of Mario Kart 9 as a launch title seems plausible.
