Ratatan, a rhythm-based roguelike developed by Ratata Arts and TVT Co. Ltd. as a spiritual successor to the cult Patapon series, has delayed its Early Access launch on Steam. It was originally set to release on July 25, 2025, but no new date has been announced. The delay comes in response to an overwhelming amount of player feedback after the demo that launched in June. The development team, led by veteran Hiroyuki Kotani, promises improvements to meet community expectations.
The Ratatan demo available during Steam Next Fest was downloaded over 200,000 times and received more than 1,200 reviews. Though it attracted attention with over 300,000 Steam wishlists, feedback highlighted several key issues:
Ratatan isn’t a direct Patapon sequel but rather an indie project reimagining rhythmic strategy in a new world with new mechanics. Set on Rataport Island, the game follows the Ratatans, charming creatures dreaming of reaching the mythical Everafter. You are the leader commanding an army of Cobuns using rhythmic commands through magical instruments called Melodiums. Success depends on syncing button presses with the rhythm to unleash powerful attacks and tactical maneuvers.
