The highly anticipated rhythm roguelite Ratatan, a spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, will now launch in Early Access on PC via Steam on September 19, 2025. The new date comes after a brief delay from its previously planned July release.

Developed by Ratata Arts, the game brings back key creators from the original series, including director Hiroyuki Kotani and character designer Tetsuya Toyama. The team delayed the launch to address feedback from a recent demo, which was downloaded over 200,000 times. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri stated the extra time was needed to “polish the game and deliver it to you in the best possible state,” as players noted issues with the tutorial, UI, difficulty, and visual effects.

In Ratatan, players lead the Hatatan tribe, commanding adorable creatures called Ratatan and Cobun in real-time battles by inputting rhythmic button commands. This blend of action, strategy, and roguelite elements allows players to customize their leader, unlock new weapons, and discover magical Pata-Pole totems. The game’s 2D art style and soundtrack, featuring artists like Yuka Kitamura of Elden Ring fame, infuse every encounter with charm and nostalgia.
