Solo developer Bye Bye Ocean brings us Coal LLC, a roguelite game that’s currently gaining major attention from players on Steam and YouTube. Set in the world of a mining corporation, you play as a manager who must meet daily coal quotas while hiring workers, upgrading gear, and digging deep underground. A demo is available on PC via Steam.

The game centers on management: you start with a simple, worn-out pickaxe and must strategically handle resources to build up your mining operation. Coal LLC also offers a variety of maps and starting professions, enabling experimentation within its procedurally generated world, so yes, the roguelike label fits, as the game can be replayed endlessly.

“With over 11,730 players who have tried the game, the average playtime is three hours, with a median of 1.5 hours, comparable to the beta phase of the hit Balatro before its global success,” says Joel, the developer. “A total of 35,385 hours have been recorded, and as of June 26, 2025, the game had 5,140 Steam wishlists, expected to grow to 6,000 during the summer sale.”

The game’s popularity has been boosted by YouTube, where over 30 international creators have covered the demo, some even starting series. Notably, popular YouTuber DangerouslyFunny, with 2.71 million subscribers, released his second video on the game after the first garnered an above-average 305,000 views.
