The independent studio Frictional Games, known for SOMA and the Amnesia series, has revealed its next title called ONTOS. The game is described as a spiritual successor to SOMA and will launch next year on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is being published with the help of Kepler Interactive and features a strong cast that includes Golden Globe winner Stellan Skarsgård.

In ONTOS, players step into the role of Aditi Amani, an engineer who travels through a repurposed moon hotel called Samsara. She is searching for answers about her estranged father, but the quiet halls of this strange place hide many secrets. Samsara is built on the remains of an abandoned mining colony, and its open, interconnected layout encourages players to explore every corner in search of clues. Each area tells part of the larger story, and much of what Aditi discovers has a dark twist.

The gameplay focuses on using the environment, solving problems with limited tools, and facing difficult decisions. You can search for helpful items, interact with complex machines, and confront terrifying “Experiments” that test both your skills and their morals. Frictional Games stresses that obstacles do not have one single answer, pushing you to think creatively and accept the consequences of you actions as the story moves toward its mysterious ending.
