Fans of challenging action RPGs have a reason to celebrate: Mortal Shell II has been officially announced. The sequel, coming from developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack, was revealed at Summer Game Fest and is set to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. You can already add the game to your wishlist, and sign-ups for beta testing are open for those who want to be the first to try the game.

Mortal Shell II returns you to the shattered world as the Foundling, a ghost-like creature that inhabits the bodies, or “Shells,” of fallen warriors. The original game was praised for its unique Shell-swapping mechanic, which allowed players to adopt different combat styles, as well as for its eerie environments. The sequel builds upon that foundation, introducing new playstyles, weapons, and a larger world.

Although story details are scarce, the announcement trailer showcased incredible visuals, from icy caverns to twisted towers. Combat in Mortal Shell II is expected to retain the high-risk intensity of its predecessor, along with various improvements. Additionally, the innovative “hardening” mechanic from the first game, which allowed you to turn to stone to block attacks, will return.
