Atari and Llamasoft have announced I, Robot, a modern reinterpretation of the 1984 arcade shoot ’em up of the same name. The game is being developed by the legendary indie developer Jeff Minter, known for his unique style and love for llamas. The new version of I, Robot is coming this spring to PlayStation 5 (with PlayStation VR2 support), Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and Atari VCS.

In I, Robot, you take control of a robot with a bull’s head that must outsmart an all-seeing eye. The premise is simple yet challenging: you move across tiles, flipping them to advance, while simultaneously dodging the eye that must not spot you. Successfully flipping the tiles leads you to an adrenaline-pumping tube-shooter section where you destroy enemies while moving through a colorful, kaleidoscopic tunnel.

The game also includes “arena levels” that test your skills in combat against waves of deadly enemies. With 55 levels full of challenges, I, Robot brings a dynamic combination of strategy, action, and fast-paced gameplay. Jeff Minter’s recognizable style is fully evident through dazzling colors, psychedelic visuals, and procedural music that evolves as you progress. For those who want a break from the action, the game also offers an “ungame” mode, where you can explore and play with the sounds and visuals of I, Robot.
