Bushiroad Games has announced a new visual novel titled The Ancient Magus Bride: Midsummer’s Mirage and the Journey of Dreams, which will be available for Nintendo Switch in 2025 in Japan. This game is based on the critically acclaimed manga by Kore Yamazaki, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, and promises to bring the enchanting world of magic, folklore, and emotional stories into an interactive format.
The game follows Chise Hatori, a high school girl who becomes a Sleigh Beggy, a rare mage with powerful magic, and her mysterious mentor and fiancé, Elias Ainsworth, also a mage but with an animal skull for a head. Visual novels typically emphasize storytelling and character interactions, so an experience with branching paths, rich dialogues, and encounters with beloved characters from the series, including Chise, Elias, and likely fae creatures like Leanan Sí or Lindel can be expected.
The game will probably include voice performances by the Japanese cast from the anime adaptation—Atsumi Tanezaki as Chise and Ryota Takeuchi as Elias. The aesthetic and music are likely to reflect the magical style of the manga and the emotional soundtrack of the anime, with possible new compositions. The Ancient Magus’ Bride was actually supposed to be announced later this month, but early leaks prompted Bushiroad Games to announce the game sooner.
The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer showing the logo, a possible release date, and one of the in-game backgrounds, but it also suggests that PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam) versions might be planned. Localization for the Western market has not yet been confirmed, but the English releases of the manga by Seven Seas Entertainment suggest that there might be interest if sales justify the investment.
