Channel37 has released Update 01: Last Humans for its sci-fi survival and crafting game The Last Caretaker. This update marks the first major step in the game’s Steam Early Access plan and brings new story content, new places to explore, better performance, and a handful of fun new features. You can also read our review of the game here.

A big focus of the update is expanding the story where players, known as Caretakers, can now take on three new questlines called Secret of Habitat Nodes, One Before Me, and Secret of Warehouse. These missions slowly uncover more of the world’s past and lead players to new surface and underwater areas, adding more depth to the flooded setting.

Alongside the story content, Update 01 adds several new tools and activities that change how players move through the world. Night vision goggles make exploring dark areas easier, while a new drivable forklift opens up fresh ways to move objects and resources. The update also adds lighter features, such as a basketball mini-game and a customizable horn that lets players play sounds and simple melodies using a built-in speaker system.

Channel37 has also focused on polish and stability. Based on player feedback, the update improves performance across physics, visuals, and the user interface, making the overall experience smoother and more reliable.

The Last Humans update is only the beginning since the next major update, titled Ocean: The Final Frontier, is planned for early 2026. It will add new features such as a Jetski, storms and lightning rods, and major upgrades to fishing, salvaging, and boat customization.
