Some games try to keep things simple. Then there’s The Wilds of Dacrima: Field Notes from a Poorly Supervised Alchemist and His Unruly Clockwork Companion, a game that somehow manages to have one of the longest titles in recent memory while also looking genuinely interesting.

After six years in development, indie studio Antler Studios has officially confirmed that the physics-based puzzle adventure launches on May 12, 2026 for Steam and the Epic Games Store. Alongside the announcement, the team also dropped a new trailer celebrating the game passing 10,000 wishlists.

The game throws players into a strange Victorian-inspired wilderness where alchemy, exploration, and physics all collide. You play as Edric Tayte, an alchemist who is maybe not fully qualified for the dangerous expedition he’s been sent on. His mission is to investigate a mysterious deadly rot spreading through the wilds, but getting there involves a lot of questionable experiments and unpredictable outcomes.

What immediately stands out is the game’s focus on emergent puzzle-solving. Instead of traditional “press the switch to open the door” style puzzles, The Wilds of Dacrima wants players to experiment. You’ll gather ingredients in the environment and brew potions capable of altering gravity, creating paths, triggering reactions, or causing complete disasters if things go wrong.

According to Antler Studios, the whole idea is to make the physics engine feel both useful and slightly dangerous at all times. Sometimes your potion solves the puzzle. Other times it launches something into the air and creates total chaos. Either way, the game treats it as part of the fun.

You’re also joined throughout the adventure by L-PIN Unit 734, a clockwork companion designed to help you navigate the world while also throwing in sarcastic commentary and occasional accidental problems. From the footage shown so far, the relationship between the two characters seems to lean heavily into dry British humor, which helps give the game a bit more personality.
