After the recent release of Deltarune Chapter 4, fans were met with an in-game confirmation that the next installment would arrive in 2026. However, developer Toby Fox has now provided a less-than-reassuring update, revealing that Deltarune Chapter 5 will not be launching in the first half of the year. Fox stated that the new release window is now the second half of 2026, a more cautious timeline that tempers expectations for a quick release.
While the early parts of Chapter 5 are complete, the rest still needs significant work. Fox revealed that roughly 40% of the chapter is in a “first pass” state, with another 10% still in a “prototype” phase. In addition, most of the cutscenes remain incomplete. The sheer amount of work left, including final translation and testing, has led Fox to rule out an early 2026 release.
Despite this news, there is a positive takeaway. Fox confirmed that most of the enemies for Chapter 5 are done, and some preliminary work has even begun on Chapter 6.
