Cyberpunk action game, Tokyo Underground Killer, is set to launch on PC via Steam on September 5, 2025. Developed by the Osaka-based Phoenix Game Productions, a team with a pedigree from renowned studios like PlatinumGames and Capcom, the game promises a stylish take on the genre for the accessible price of 9.99 euros.
In this fever-dream vision of dystopian Tokyo, players take on the role of Kobayashi, a feared assassin for the Gokuraku crime syndicate. The game thrusts you into lightning-fast katana combat, where you will wield a mystical blade and harness ten supernatural Blood Skills. Your mission is to battle through Tokyo’s criminal underworld and face off against ten uniquely challenging bosses.
Beyond the relentless action, the game offers a chance to explore neon-lit renditions of real-world locales like Shinjuku and Akihabara. You can also enjoy downtime activities, such as decorating your apartment or playing minigames like pachinko and capsule machines. The narrative unfolds through nearly 100 pages of original comic book panels drawn by artist Hans Steinbach, complemented by a electronic soundtrack from composer Andrew Hulshult, known for his work on DOOM Eternal.
Tokyo Underground Killer is fully voiced in both English and Japanese, with a Japanese cast that includes the legendary Hidekatsu Shibata (Naruto, One Piece) as the ruthless crime boss Ishihara. While the PC version is locked in for a September release, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are also in development, though their release dates have yet to be announced.
