Juggler Games, the creators of titles like Tarnished Blood, The Amazing American Circus, and the well-received action-adventure game My Memory of Us, invited us to their studio located in the capital of Poland. It was a great opportunity to see firsthand how this indie team works, but also to learn more about their previous projects and experience in the gaming industry. We also took the chance to try out the latest version of their upcoming city-builder game The Whims of the Gods, which is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2025.
It was on February 17, 2016, that Mikołaj Pawłowski and Łukasz Janczuk decided to establish Juggler Games studio. Their goal was to create games with striking stories, exceptional art styles, and engaging mechanics, and as their projects progressed, more experienced experts from the Polish gaming industry joined them. The studio recently celebrated its ninth official anniversary, and although the team size has changed over time, the “Jugglers” remain dedicated to creating games you’ll want to play for hours without stopping.
Upon arriving at the studio, we were guided by the main designer and producer, Łukasz, as well as Mateusz from PJ Games, a studio founded in 2021 in cooperation between Platige Image and Juggler Games. PJ Games is now involved in the production of The Whims of the Gods, as this company will self-publish the game.
We managed to peek into the workstations where designers, artists, programmers, and testers were analyzing, improving, and fixing various aspects of the game. Their work was displayed not only on computer screens but also on boards filled with various diagrams and notes related to the game, truly giving us insight into the complexity of the whole process.
We also took a moment to admire the results of their work by looking at the awards from the Digital Dragons Conference: the Best Indie Game award in 2017 for My Memory of Us and the second place in the Indie Showcase competition in 2023 for Tarnished Blood. Since the Juggler Games team has participated in the biggest events in the gaming industry, such as PAX EAST and WEST, E3, Tokyo Game Show, and Gamescom, as well as similar events in Poland (e.g., Poznań Game Arena), they compared their experiences from these events, emphasizing the importance of interacting with visitors.
After all that, it was finally time for the highlight of the visit: I had the opportunity to try out the latest version of The Whims of the Gods. If you want to find out more about this game and the process of its creation, I highly recommend the interview my colleague Ivan conducted with the developers. And if you are interested in my opinion on the title, you can read our first impressions here.
Playing The Whims of the Gods marked the conclusion of our visit to Juggler Games studio. Not only did we have the chance to see the inner workings of an indie studio, but we also gained valuable insight into the Polish gaming industry and what we can expect from it. Therefore, we will continue to closely follow The Whims of the Gods, eagerly anticipating its full release and the public’s reaction to this cooperative city-builder.
