During Nordic Game Spring 2024 in Sweden, we had the opportunity to try out the demo version of IDUN, a game that stands out thanks to its engaging gameplay loop and the way its solo developer presented its core concept.

IDUN is an action RTS and single-player game that includes a story-driven campaign. Your goal is to hold the line against massive swarms of enemies on a fully simulated battlefield and survive while completing specific objectives. Your actual mission is to extract resources from a hostile planet.

What truly makes IDUN stand out is its impressive suite of simulations and rendering features, including fully destructible terrain with vegetation, enemies that fluidly find their path, and an enormous number of projectiles and explosions. The developer presenting the game was entertaining and engaging, while the game itself was packed with action and genuinely fun to play. We really enjoyed the simple concept and the variety of missions on offer.

You’ll also be able to build and upgrade various rooms. As you invest in farms, factories, storage areas, and weapon systems, you’ll see tangible changes in the 3D model of your station, both inside and out. Missions also provide resources essential to the station, which can later be used to upgrade various elements. On top of that, the game includes several playable characters and even lets you control your own robot. Different difficulty levels ensure that each playthrough feels unique.

If you’re curious to see what this title has to offer, a demo version is available on Steam for you to explore in more depth.
