Indie studio Irregular Shapes has revealed its debut game City Tales – Medieval Era, during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted. This upcoming city-builder will let players create large, vibrant medieval cities with complete freedom and control. City Tales will launch in Early Access on PC via Steam sometime in 2025.

Although we already saw a medieval city-builder this year with Manor Lords, next year brings another title with a completely different approach. The game’s goal is to design expansive cities that grow and adapt naturally. What sets it apart is full control over planning, designing, and drawing city districts. Coupled with a charming hand-painted aesthetic, the towns feel lively and authentic.

Beyond construction, the game offers deep economic management with over 50 types of resources and 60 unique buildings. Structures are built and upgraded in real time using procedural generation, ensuring no two buildings are identical. Environmental factors and nearby structures influence how each building grows and looks. The game also includes narrative elements through companion characters who play an important role in city development.

“We’re excited to finally reveal City Tales: Medieval Era, our first project since founding the studio in 2022,” says Rémi Malet, founder of Irregular Shapes. “As lovers of building games, we wanted to create a game that puts creativity first, with satisfying construction and management systems. We can’t wait to see player creations next year.”

Summary:
City Tales – Medieval Era is a creative city-builder where players design evolving medieval cities with rich management systems, launching in 2025.
