Hamster Corporation has released Arcade Archives: The Outfoxies, bringing a long-lost arcade game back to life for the first time outside Japan. The game launched on December 18, 2025, ending a wait of nearly 30 years.

First released in arcades in 1995 on Namco’s NB-2 hardware, The Outfoxies was popular in Japan but never reached homes. A planned PlayStation version was canceled that same year, which caused the game to fade from view and gain a reputation as a lost classic of the 2D era.

The Outfoxies is a fast and chaotic arena fighter that arrived years before the platform-fighter genre became popular. Players pick from seven strange and memorable assassins, including a scientist in a wheelchair, a chimpanzee, and twin siblings who throw tickets as weapons. Matches allow free movement across large, layered stages, and while close-range attacks exist, combat is driven by the many items scattered around each arena.

The arenas change as the fight goes on and often become just as dangerous as the other players. Battles can take place on moving helicopters, speeding trains, or inside buildings that fall apart mid-match. These shifting environments, combined with strict time limits, create a sense of constant pressure and chaos.

This new release comes in two versions. The standard Arcade Archives edition is available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for €14.99 and focuses on an authentic arcade experience with options like difficulty settings and rewind features. Players on newer systems can choose Arcade Archives 2 on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S for €16.99. This version adds local two-player support, a Time Attack mode, and Variable Refresh Rate support for smoother play.
