Good news for retro gaming fans who prefer to play on their phones. RetroAchievements has officially verified ARMSX2 as a hardcore-compatible emulator, allowing players to earn PlayStation 2 achievements on mobile devices while remaining eligible for competitive rankings.
The announcement is significant because RetroAchievements’ hardcore mode comes with strict requirements. Features such as save states, rewinds, cheats, and other gameplay assists are disabled to ensure a level playing field. Until now, PS2 emulation on mobile has offered limited options for players interested in earning hardcore achievements.
ARMSX2 is a relatively new emulator built from the PCSX2 project and designed specifically for ARM-powered devices. Available across platforms such as Android and iOS, it aims to continue pushing mobile PS2 emulation forward with regular updates, performance improvements, and expanded compatibility.
For achievement hunters, the biggest benefit is simple: you can now play supported PlayStation 2 games on your phone or tablet while earning achievements that count toward your RetroAchievements profile and leaderboard rankings.
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to revisit your favorite PlayStation 2 classics on the go, this may be the update you’ve been looking for.
