Since its release in 2020, the ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia has grown into a global hit, selling more than 25 million copies. The project has expanded far beyond its early days, inspiring a film adaptation with Blumhouse and moving toward a major “Horror 2.0” update alongside a full 1.0 launch planned for later in 2026. Now, Daniel Knight is using that success to give back to the indie space by launching Kinetic Publishing, a new label built to support smaller studios.
Kinetic Publishing is led by Knight alongside Asim Tanvir, Director of Marketing and Partnerships, who brings 15 years of experience from major publishers such as 2K and Konami. The label is fully independent, with no outside investors or shareholders. Tanvir explains that the goal is not to control projects, but to support them, allowing teams to build the games they believe in without outside pressure.
Although Kinetic Games is best known for co-op horror, the new publishing arm is open to all genres. The focus ranges from calm life simulators to deep role-playing games. Rather than signing many titles at once, the label plans to release only two or three projects per year. This approach allows for close collaboration and personal support. Funding will depend on each project’s needs, with investments ranging from a few hundred thousand pounds to more than £1 million.
Knight’s experience growing Kinetic Games from a one-person project into a 40-person studio gives the label a strong practical edge. Many challenges in game development are not creative, but structural, such as legal setup, trademarks, contracts, and localization. One of Knight’s main goals is to help small teams understand when and how to grow.
The creation of Kinetic Publishing will not slow down work on Phasmophobia. The main development team remains fully focused on the game’s future, including the 1.0 release and a newly confirmed version for the Nintendo Switch 2.
